Baking: Emergency Ingredient Substitutions

Another one for your bakers out there, I found a handy dandy list of emergency ingredient substitutions for some common baking needs from Yummly. Some of the user comments also provide some additional substitution tips.

The list is, however, missing the sub for cake flour, which I desperately needed recently while trying my hand at this cake recipe (which, by the way, ended up being a complete, albeit pretty, disaster that didn’t have anything to do with the sub… but I digress…).

Anywho, the sub for cake flour is this:

  • Add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in a 1 cup measure cup and fill the rest with all-purpose flour. 🙂
