Ai Weiwei’s zodiac installation has arrived at LACMA after its initial showing in New York. According to the LAT article, we’re going to get the rare opportunity to see this artist/activist’s work up close and personal as his “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads” will be at LACMA through February 2012. The installation “features 12 large-scale animal heads from the Chinese zodiac modeled after those at the Yuanming Yuan, an 18th century palace outside Beijing. (The original work was pillaged by Western military forces in the 19th century, and parts of it are still missing today.)”
The cast bronze sculptures will be arranged in a circular formation out on the plaza level of the museum’s main courtyard and will be open to the public to see free of charge.
